It was show time, and the electricity was in the air, but nothing like the electricity that Janeera’s entrance created. She sang the first few bars of her song as the lights dimmed. There was a hush when her captivating voice came through the speakers, sweetly and intimately as the lyrics poured…

“Here I am…Here you are…you and I together…”

She caressed the lyrics so intimately, that it made men restless. No one who heard her voice could wait to see her, and the darkened stage created this longing, especially in Miles. Then the burst of spotlights came in kaleidoscopic colors, spotlighting everything around the room in rhythm, to the fast and driving beat of the bass, congas and drums. She appeared from nowhere, yet no one knew how she did it, when she was suddenly onstage. She looked stunning, gliding on the stage like a ballerina wearing a tight, nude-colored jumpsuit with glittering colorful gemstones.
Song after song, Janeera reigned regally as the queen of the night. Her clever repartee tastefully sprinkled between songs entertained even Miles, who rarely enjoyed live performances. Even Troy Neil had to admit that with all the dislike he felt for this “unwanted” singer, Janeera was good at her craft, and she brought in a lot of business.

Soon it was Janeera’s last song, a ballad that tore through the hearts of many. She sang like her broken heart wrote the words and music. But Janeera was far from brokenhearted. She sang her songs wholeheartedly because she was in love with Raymond. Even singing sad songs gave her inspiration, because now she could imagine how sad she would be without Raymond in her life. Before the last note was sung, people rose to their feet and gave Janeera a much-deserved ovation. Miles stood and applauded enthusiastically like a proud father, signaling his bodyguards to get up and do the same.
Drenched in perspiration, Janeera was waiting for the elevator to take her to her suite, when a couple of strangers approached her. One of them casually remarked that Miles Gerrard was waiting for her.
“Give me a few minutes to get out of this costume, and I’ll be back to say hi,” replied Janeera.
“Do you mind, Miss Janeera, if we walked you to your room?”
“It’s safe here in the hotel, gentlemen.”

“Mr. Gerrard wants us to escort you to your suite. We’re just doing our jobs.”
